Is Vintage St Michael's back for M&S?

I have a vintage curating business called @theoncebelovededit over on Instagram and I type in St Michaels when searching for vintage pieces over anything else and I find the best pieces.  So when I was in Marks and Spencer recently and I saw the St Michaels branding on a food product, I got so excited.  

A little bit of history.... St Michael was an iconic private label introduced by Marks and Spencer in 1928 as a high quality brand.  It was a brand that you knew in M&S had the highest standard of textiles and materials.  By the 1950s and for the next fifty years, almost all goods sold by Marks and Spencer's used the St Michael brand.  The brand was dropped in the early 2000s as part of a rebranding.

In September 2021, Marks and Spencer announced they would begin selling clothes using the brand again after it gained popularity on vintage clothing resale websites.  They have revived the St Michael name as part of its current heritage/nostalgia push.  It's a 26 piece limited edition capsule collection with the streetwear brand Aries and you can also see the St Michael branding in the food hall on retro chocolate bars, biscuit selections and many more.

So what do we think of this?

I think it's great!  I'm not against buying brand new, if the quality is there and the products aren't fast fashion.  If M&S are continuing the St Michael range as they did in the 1920's-1950's, then this will be the case!

But this is even more of a reason to continue buying St Michael pieces vintage as it absolutely has even more cultural relevance again.  It's a lovely moment to sell genuine vintage St Michael pieces.  The label that once signified quality M&S clothing is suddenly feeling nostalgic, collectible and fashionable again.

Proving that if something isn't broken, why change it or why not bring it back?
