Mr Gatsby

Mr Gatsby would like to see you.....!

‘The great Gatsby’, coming out at christmas, is full of ball gowns encrusted and covered in embellishment.  Embellishment has been around for years beginning with sea shells, seeds and broken shells.  It’s a royal art, a token of status and luxury for kings and emperors, for whom designs were created out of precious gold and silver threads from lavish fabrics.  Sometimes further embellished with bright beads, peacock feathers,  shimmering pearls and dazzling gems.  Rhinestones, pretty beads and Pearls are the dress equivalent to champagne, their presence suggest a special occasion.
This fall, designers Balmain, Marchesa and Oscar de la Renta graced the catwalk with beautiful encrusted dresses, skirts and jackets with gob stopping crystals, detailed embroidery and feathers.  Balmains collection includes embellished sweatshirts and jackets with needlework cameos, stretchy dresses embroidered all over with pearls and crystals and matching skirt and jacket sets.  Marchesa’s collection has caped dresses with dollars worth of lace embroidery and feathers and Oscar de la Renta has outfits affixed with crystals that the models also wear in their hair.  This glamorous, seductive, charming old school glamour look has been seen on celebrities such a kristen stewart and Kate Mara on the catwalk for ‘Homeland’.
You must wear this look with confidence as it is foxy.  Pair H&M’s feathered white skirt with H&M’s golden lustruous and shoulder encrusted jacket for the look or wear Topshop’s  limited edition flapper style dress with golden embroidery and beads and a simple pair of cream heels and jewelled headband.  Alternatively wear a plain white or black dress with Accessorizes baroque, blue jewel dripping clutch, Dorothy Perkins glam pearl detailed heel t-bar shoes and a big jewelled necklace or earrings, both would be too much. The new collection ‘collection 8‘ from Phase Eight is all old school glamour and is all completely perfect for the look, dripping in sequins, lace and teamed with a fur scarf.  Wear with red lipstick and a hair up do and you can nail the look.  Just grab a feather boa and paint on a beauty spot and wait for Mr Gatsby to request you.
