A reflection on the trends of 2025 - The best and the worst
Happy New Year everyone and welcome to my first blogpost of 2026! I always like to start the year by reflecting on the trends of the previous year and discussing them and predicting what the trends will be for 2026. Trends in this day and age with social media and algorithms can be subjective, it can depend on what your algorithm shows you. All the trends that I have listed below are all the items that I have seen all the fashion girlies wear. I keep a note in my phone that I update throughout the year to help remember anything, which I'm always so happy that I did as reading back through it I had already forgotten the summer trends! I actually don't think there's anything too rogue this year as it does seem that trends have calmed down over the years as people are more conscious, so all the below items could be worn for years. Let me know if you bought into any of the below and which you really didn't like!
1) COLOURS - YELLOW, BROWN AND BURGENDY
Butter yellow is the most memorable colour of 2025 as everyone went wild for it during the spring and Summer months. I loved it in accessories, but personally it's not a colour that particular suits me. I did however buy a linen dress in a butter yellow that I wore to Lords and I did love it. During the Autumn and Winter months, the colours were pretty much the same as last year which is burgundy and brown. I love these colours, so it's been great to continue wearing these colours from last year.
2) SHOES - FISHERMAN SANDALS, MESH BALLET FLATS, JELLY SANDALS AND FLIP FLOPS
There have been a selection of shoes that have been on trend this year. The fisherman sandals and mesh ballet flats have been my absolute favourite and I have worn them so much. They make any outfit look cooler as they are such statement pieces. They are also very marmite pieces and they have been the shoes that my family have judged me for!!! Flip flops have been such a dark horse this year as I have found they go with everything and make outfits look more casual. I have found myself reaching for them all the time. I didn't indulge in jelly sandals, they weren't really my style, but I have seen them being sold and styled a lot.
3) LABUBU CHARMS AND ANYTHING JAPANESE
Now I have really loved anything Japanese since we went to Japan in 2024 and I am such a matcha fan, but I draw the line at Labubu's. This is one trend I have just not been able to get on board with!!
4) MIU MIU AND MULBERRY BAGS and SELLING DESIGNER BAGS
2025 was the year that Lydia Millen sold all her designer hand bags and the world went mad for it. Many people were inspired to do the same and it influenced people to not put so much self worth into the luxury items they own. I love the idea of this, but I'm not that girl!!! I have dreamed of owning certain bags since I was 10 years old and I don't think I will ever change and I love that for me. With selling all of her designer bags, Lydia started replacing them with vintage mulberry bags and other smaller British brands, so of course, the resurgence of the Mulberry bag began. I do love this as Mulberry is such a beautiful British brand. Miu Miu was the summer favourite, where I saw many people having a Miu Miu summer. Miu Miu just isn't a brand I gravitate towards, but I love it on other people.
5) SILK SCARFS
Silk scarfs has been my favourite accessory trend of 2025, which is a big statement. People have been wearing it on their head like a bandana, round their necks, tied around their waists or many other ways. It's been the cool girl accessory and I have loved it.
6) BERMUDA SHORTS
What I love about this trend is that it can be worn all year round! I loved wearing this with shirts and t-shirts in Summer and then I added a thin knit jumper as it got cooler. Winter I have been wanting to style it with knee high boots and coats and I just think they are such a chic item in your wardrobe.
7) LACE AND SILK
This is a bold statement, but I think that lace and silk have been the biggest trends of 2025. Everyone has gone mad for the silk and lace cami's in Spring/Summer and then by Autumn/Winter, they were wearing jumpers over them so the lace sticks out of the bottom. I have loved this trend!!
8) CHUNKY MEDALLION JEWELLERY
This is a very cool trend, where the chunky medallions are often on black rope. It's a very simple way to make a plain outfit look a bit cooler.
9) BELT STACKING
This is a trend we saw all over the catwalk this year and it is very cool, but not one that would suit me as i'm pretty petite, so it would be a bit much! I think it is a very cool and edgy look though.
10) V NECK JUMPERS
Wearing a V neck jumper over a white t-shirt has been such a cool girl look and one I have really been loving. It looks great worn casually with jeans , but also looks really cool with dressier items like silk skirts and trousers.
11) BARREL AND BALLOON TROUSERS
My second favourite trend of the year has definitely been barrel and balloon trousers. Barrel and carrot jeans are the jeans style I never realised I needed to instantly make my wardrobe better and elevated and now everything just looks so much cooler. They are also the comfiest jeans because they are a looser fit and I have bought them in every colour!!! Balloon trousers were my most recent fashion purchase and I bought them at the start of November. They have been worn several times for evening dinners as they are such a cool and unique trouser that make every outfit look chic and elevated. They are such a marmite piece though, but I love them.
12) HERITAGE AND RALPH LAUREN STYLE
Heritage and Ralph Lauren has also been such a huge trend of 2025, with the ever rising popularity of Holland Cooper. This is a trend I enjoy, but it's not quiet my style, so I dip into certain elements of it that I feel does suit me, for example tweed blazers and White shirts.
13) FUNNEL STYLE COATS, SCARF COATS AND FUR COATS
Funnel style coats, scarf coats and fur coats have been the biggest coat styles of 2025 and I have enjoyed them all. The one I don't have yet is a scarf coat, but I do have my eye on one that I really like from Reiss. I bought a vintage faux fur coat at the start of the year and I cannot wait to wear it in New York in Feb.
14) GARTER TRIANGLE NECK SCARFS
My final trend of 2025 has been the garter triangle neck scarf that we have seen being worn everywhere. People are wearing them over blazers and coats and they are just elevating the outfits. They add a slight Scandinavian style to the look. Although I like this trend, I don't think it's one I will buy into as I do prefer the look of a normal scarf, but I can appreciate it.
2026 Trend predictions:
1) Nostalgia
I didn't include this trend in 2025, but it was the start of it. Many bags were reissued in 2025, including the Chloe Paddington and the Fendi spy bag and this will continue and grow into 2026.
2) 80s Glamour
2026 will be the year that 80s glamour returns, with the return of power suits, shoulder pads and chunky jewellery.
3) The Poet aesthetic
Poet aesthetic is pretty similar to the Ralph Lauren trend but with a few tweaks. There will be lots of preppy staples like vintage blazers and in particular using a tie is an accessory.
4) Brooched madness
This is where you use multiple brooches grouped together to make a statement art piece on a jacket. I actually think using 3 instead of one does turn the look from looking a bit Grandma to chic as there is something quiet dated about wearing a brooch, but this makes it modern.
